March is National Nutrition Month and We Need Your Help!
March is National Nutrition Month and some community members struggle to access nutritional food items. Hope’s Front Door’s services not only fight food insecurity, but help families’ access nutritional foods as well as provides education on eating healthy and shopping for health food on a budget; look at how activities and nutrition can impact chronic diseases as well as mental, emotional, and physical health.
Food insecurity is a major problem for more than 65,000 people in DuPage County. This is where HFD steps in; we can provide food vouchers for groceries to local stores that allow people to shop for foods specific to their families’ needs. At times, we are the only source of immediate access to food and our grocery vouchers often supply what the food pantries cannot. More than 35% of our clients have recorded health problems and specific dietary needs. These clients often inform us of their doctors’ recommended dietary restrictions or requirements which are based on their health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other illnesses. Once we provide help with food vouchers, providing immediate relief, we can then discuss our healthy eating/lifestyle.
We need your help! If you have a background as a dietician or in nutritional health we would love for you to partner with us to help our local community. Please call us at 630-241-0187 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
